Clarece Fletcher was the oldest of six children born to the
union of Clarence and Delighter Smith on October 27, 1944 in Houma, Louisiana.
She accepted Christ at a very early age.
After moving to California with her family in 1946, Clarece attended public schools in the Compton Unified School District, where she was honored for twelve years of perfect attendance. It was during her years at Centennial Sr. High School that she met Carl Sherman, whom she married shortly after graduating in 1962. To this union, two children were born, Carl Jr. and LaTanya. Her third child, Leaonna, was born to her second marriage to Frank Fletcher in 1970, who preceded her in death.
She worked for several companies in the Southern California area, including eleven years with Pacific Bell and as the Office Manager for the Legal Offices of Carl Sherman for twelve years. At the time of her death she was employed with Reynolds Aluminum in Los Angeles, CA.
In 1984, Clarece re-committed her life to Christ when she joined
New Commandment Missionary Baptist Church of Paramount, CA. under the leadership
of Rev. Grady Jones. Within her fourteen years with NCMBC, Clarece was very
dedicated and actively involved in her church. She served as Chairman of Special
Accounts, Coordinator for the Love and Care Committee, a member of the Church
Celebration Committee & Pastor's Secretary. She spent endless hours working
with the Missionary Department, handling all legal matters for the church,
performed clerical duties as needed, completed the church directory, and was a
proud and faithful member of the NCMBC Inspirational Choir. Clarece had a great
love for God and she dearly loved and adored her Pastor. She was there to do
whatever she could for growth of the church.
Clarece was promoted to a better life on Wednesday, June 24, 1998 at 1:45p.m. at St. Francis Hospital in Lynwood, Ca.
